Wisconsin Statute 767.405: Family Court Services

Any action affecting the family in which it appears that legal custody or physical placement is contested shall be referred to the director of family court services for possible mediation. The director shall appoint a mediator, or the parties may select a private mediator at their own expense. The statute provides requirements regarding mediator qualifications, confidentiality of proceedings, attendance at mediation sessions, and the powers and duties of mediators.
