Virginia State Bar Rules of Professional Conduct, Rule 5.5: Unauthorized Practice of Law; Multijurisdictional Practice of Law

This rule states that a 'foreign lawyer,' defined as one who is authorized to practice law in the United States or abroad but is not licensed or authorized to practice in Virginia, may 'provide legal services in potential arbitration, mediation or other alternative dispute resolution proceedings in Virginia on a temporary and occasional basis' if the case is related to the lawyer's practice.
