South Carolina Standards of Conduct for Mediators

Supreme Court of South Carolina. Jul. 18, 2007
http://www.judicial.state.sc.us/courtReg/arbmedb.html

These standards govern the ethical conduct to be followed by mediators. Mediators are to facilitate a self-determined decision, rather than becoming directly involved. A mediator shall remain impartial, and shall disclose all potential conflicts of interest. Mediators should possess a level of training and experience necessary to mediate effectively and competently. A mediator must maintain all reasonable expectations of confidentiality, and must conduct the mediation fairly, diligently, and in a manner appropriate to uphold the quality of the process. Mediators shall make all advertisements and solicitations truthfully, provide sufficient information regarding fees, and use their knowledge to help educate the public about mediation.
