Rules Governing the Courts of the State of New Jersey Rule 4.21A - Arbitration of Certain Civil Actions

Under this rule, all personal injury actions, automobile negligence actions, and other appropriate contract and commercial actions shall be referred to mandatory arbitration. All other cases may be submitted to voluntary arbitration on stipulation of the parties. The rule outlines procedures for conducting arbitration proceedings, including pre-hearing submissions, arbitrator powers, admissibility of evidence, attendance requirements, filing of an award, entry of judgment, and demanding a trial de novo. The rule also provides requirements for arbitrator qualifications, selection, and compensation.
