The author describes findings from studies on happiness and links this growing field to conflict resolution. In making this connection, the author makes two assumptions: "(1) Unhappy peoples are more likely to find themselves in unproductive or even destructive conflict than happy people (and conversely for happy people); and (2) People who find themselves in unproductive or destructive conflict are more likely than others to become unhappy" (p 218). The author further explores the implications of this hypothesized linkage between happiness and conflict. He encourages those who work in conflict resolution to use the findings from happiness research in their practice and suggests a research agenda to further investigate the link between the two fields.
