Mandatory Court Mediation: Demographic Summary and Consumer Evaluation of One Court Service - Executive Summary

Duryee, Mary A.. Jul. 1, 1991

This report provides basic demographic and outcome data for the mandatory divorce mediation program in one of California's counties over a two-year period. The information was collected from the clients at the beginning of the mediation process and from the Family Court counselors at the close of the case. It found a 76% resolution rate (full and partial agreement), joint legal and physical custody for 37% of families, and domestic violence allegations in 17% of all cases. The clients preferred mediation over litigation and most would try mediation again.
