Long Term and Immediate Outcomes of Family Group Conferencing in Washington State (June 2001)

Shore, Nancy, et al. Restorative Practices Eforum, Sep. 1, 2002
http://www.iirp.edu/pdf/fgcwash.pdf

The article presents the findings of a study of 70 family group conferences (FGCs) involving 138 children around Seattle, Washington. The study evaluated family plans and post-conference activity (e.g. whether the child was taken back into custody). It found that family plans were created for 97% of the children involved. All these plans included at least one "family-driven support." The study also found that there was a significant increase in the number of children placed with their parents after FGC. FGCs resulted in permanent placement of 82% of children. Only 10% experienced difficulty with the primary plan.
