Jefferson County Mediation Services Program Report 2008-2009

This report provides an overview of Jefferson County Mediation Services' conflict resolution program in 2008-2009. JCMS provided services for small claims, protection orders, employment disputes, family cases, neighbor disputes and more. The report includes estimates of cost savings for agencies that referred disputes to mediation, calculating almost $250,000 in savings for 2,813 cases. JCMS added the cost benefit of the addition of about 9,000 volunteer hours, leading to a total savings of almost $725,000. 70% of the cases referred went through mediation, with 64% of those referred by the court and 80% of those referred by county agencies leading to agreement. Overall, 96% of participants were very or somewhat satisfied (67% very) with their experience. The report also provides details about the backgrounds and qualifications of volunteer mediators and the organization's goals for the future.
