Illinois Uniform Arbitration Act, 710 ILCS 5

The Illinois Uniform Arbitration Act provides that a written agreement to submit any existing or future controversy to arbitration is enforceable and irrevocable in this state. The court can stay an arbitration proceeding if a party can show that there is no agreement to arbitrate. Actions involving an issue subject to arbitration must be postponed until the arbitration on the issue is complete. If the parties cannot agree upon a method of appointing arbitrators, the arbitration agreement will terminate. The arbitration award must be in writing and signed by the arbitrators. The award will dictate how the arbitrator's fees and expenses will be paid. Finally, an agreement to arbitrate in Illinois confers jurisdiction on the court to enforce the award.
