This article summarizes the structure and findings of nine studies of custody, comprehensive divorce, and child protection mediation. The findings include those on satisfaction, settlement rates, time and cost effects, evidence of changes in relationships, and the durability of the agreements reached. The author concludes that family mediation has been consistently successful in resolving all studied disputes. Settlement rates range between 50% and 90%. Client satisfaction is high in all studies, and the effect on families has been consistently positive.
