Emerging Strategies for Effective Foreclosure Mediation Programs

U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Nov. 10, 2001
http://www.justice.gov/atj/effective-mediation-prog-strategies.pdf

The U.S. Departments of Justice and Housing and Urban Development released this November 2010 report on "emerging strategies for effective foreclosure mediation programs." The report encourages program leaders to involve stakeholders in the design and development of the program, and to implement outreach and education efforts to ensure homeowners facing foreclosure are aware of the program. The report also says that homeowners are better prepared for mediation when they are assisted by a housing counselor and represented by an attorney. It encourages programs to implement accountability measures for mediation participants, and to monitor and evaluate program performance.
