In July 1996, Minnesota launched the Family Group Conferencing Program, a 2-year project with the goal of increasing client satisfaction with the criminal justice system. The program was designed to provide a forum for crime victims to meet with their offenders in a safe environment and discuss the incident. The program's findings showed a very high level of client satisfaction overall, with a nearly 100% recommendation rate of family conferencing to others by victims, offenders, and their support people.
