Children's Court Mediations Annual Report - July 1, 2007, to June 30, 2008

New Mexico Administrative Office of the Courts; Baca-Sena, Louise M.; Berry, Teresa A.. Jul. 27, 2008

The New Mexico Administrative Office of the Courts and the New Mexico Children Youth and Families Department (CYFD) have worked since 2000 to provide mediation services in child abuse and neglect cases in New Mexico. Mediations were conducted through the Children's Court Mediation Program in eleven New Mexico judicial districts and from 2000 to 2008, 2,800 cases were mediated under this initiative. The program saw a 17 percent increase in referrals from fiscal year 2007 (with 516 referrals) to 2008 (with 604). The program is funded by the state, through CYFD grants and from supplemental funding from local district courts. This report discusses activities in each site, mediator training opportunities, biographical information about local coordinators, program plans for each district in which a program is located and training agendas.
