The New Mexico Administrative Office of the Courts and the New Mexico Children Youth and Families Department (CYFD) have worked since 2000 to provide mediation services in child abuse and neglect cases in New Mexico. Mediations were conducted through the Children's Court Mediation Program in all New Mexico judicial districts and, from 2000 to 2009, 3,500 cases were mediated under this initiative. The program saw a 15 percent increase in referrals from 2007-2008 (with 604 referrals) to 2008-2009 (with 693). The program is funded by the state, through CYFD grants and from supplemental funding from local district courts. This report discusses activities in each site, mediator training opportunities, program plans for each district, training agendas and a Mediator Assessment Project Report.
