This report evaluates the New Mexico Children's Court Mediation Program, which "provides mediation services for families of the Child Protective Services Division of the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department" and whose "primary purpose...is to assist in meeting the Adoption and Safe Families Act goals of permanency, child safety and child well-being" (p.1). The program served 25 counties in 11 judicial districts in fiscal year 2008, and 604 cases were referred to the program. This evaluation describes the program's activities in FY 2008, including services provided, family profiles and participation satisfaction as well as the effectiveness of mediation, and data was drawn from case records, feedback forms, surveys and focus groups. The report also summarizes a 2004-2005 comparative study and provides suggestions for future research.
