The New Mexico Administrative Office of the Courts and the New Mexico Children Youth and Families Department (CYFD) have worked since 2000 to provide mediation services in child abuse and neglect cases through the New Mexico Children's Court Mediation Program. From 2000 to 2007, 2,200 cases were mediated under this initiative. The program saw an increase in referrals from 115 in 2000-2001 to 395 in 2005-2006 and 516 in 2006-2007. The program is funded by state funds, through CYFD grants and from supplemental funding from local district courts. The report discusses project activities in each project site, training opportunities, biographical information about local coordinators, project plans for each district in which a program is located and training agendas. Appendix D of the report is an evaluation of the program, addressing issues of participant satisfaction, program strengths and weaknesses, and suggestions for future research, among other topics.
