This document compares alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in Maryland in 1998 and 2007. In 1998, there were seven child access mediation programs and no domestic settlement conference programs; in 2007, there were child access mediation programs in 24 jurisdictions and domestic settlement conference programs in seven. Likewise, in 1998 there were no marital property or child welfare mediation programs in Maryland, and in 2007, there were 11 and 13, respectively. The report also notes an increase in mediation and volunteer settlement conference programs in circuit courts for civil, non domestic cases. ADR and conflict resolution programs have increased in district courts, orphan courts, the State's Attorney's Office, and in schools. This document also provides information regarding conferences and workshops the Maryland Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office has co-sponsored and given.
