This rule authorizes the court to refer all family cases involving child custody, visitation and removal, as well as other non-economic disputes, to mediation. A 2008 amendment to the rule authorizes the court to also refer never-married parents involved in child support and child custody disputes to mediation. The rule covers the case referral and screening processes. It also addresses mediator certification, selection and compensation.
