Under this rule, any judicial circuit may elect to establish a mediation program for child custody and visitation disputes. Any contested issue of child custody or visitation may be referred to mediation at any time on the motion of a party or the court. The mediator may be selected by either the parties or the court, if the parties cannot agree. The rule outlines procedures for terminating mediation and gives requirements for mediator qualifications, duties, confidentiality, and parties not represented by counsel.
