• Roundtable discussion is organized with London-based Academy of Experts. Brings together leaders of the bench and bar in Illinois to discuss use of mediation in complex commercial and tort litigation.
• Judicial Institute is conducted for judges who refer major civil cases to mediation.
• RSI presents its Service to the Community Award to Illinois Supreme Court Justice and former RSI Executive Committee member Howard C. Ryan (ret.).
• First full-time Executive Director, Susan M. Yates, is hired.

1998

• Major Civil Litigation Mediation Program is created in 12th Judicial Circuit. RSI provides mediation training and evaluation software.
• RSI's organizational website goes online.
